YORK’S CHOCOLATE STORY

Hi readers, welcome to my article. This month I am reviewing somewhere mouth-watering… It’s York Chocolate Story! Read on to find out more…

The centre of York holds this chocolate museum tour. Full of fun facts and chocolate tasting and making this is definitely the place for chocolate lovers. Each tour takes about 45mins, with a gift shop and cafe to look around after too. Now I will tell you all about my tour…

When the tour first begins your tour guide will first ask if you have any allergies, then they will start telling you about the first ever chocolate and what people thought of it. To start with people only drank chocolate so when the idea came along of it becoming a solid people weren’t too sure. After the information you get to try the first ever type of chocolate that was made (it was very nice). You now go into a different room and go back in time to the Aztecs. You watch a short clip then if you’re brave enough you can try the Aztecs ‘chocolate’ drink – I won’t tell you about this one so it’s a surprise when you visit yourself! You go through various rooms where you learn something different about the history of chocolate in each of them but my favourite is where you meet all the first chocolatiers. They speak to you but they’re in paintings so the effect is really good. You get more chocolate in here too.

You then move onto a different floor where you see how chocolate is made now. There is a little interactive station where certain people move things on a screen. Afterwards, you try more chocolate then have a chance to look around at displays and other little interactive stations. Next you get to design and make your own chocolate lolly, with various toppings to add which you take home, then see how a chocolatier makes little truffles which taste delicious. This is the end of the tour and you can then visit the gift shop and café. The shop sells loads of different chocolates with something for every taste. You can also drink a delicious hot chocolate in the café.

Overall I think York Chocolate Story is great value for money and definitely worth a visit. Nearly everybody loves chocolate and it is good to learn about its origins and history too. I think that all the family will enjoy themselves here but I recommend it particularly for older children and adults.
