Wubbleyou, Innovative Web Design

Business ReviewsFeatures

Wubbleyou Web Design are an online technology company that we commissioned to create our website www.yorkshirereporter.co.uk. They came highly recommended to us from other Leeds businesses and are based in Newcastle Upon-Tyne.

[private] They have recently opened up a second office just outside of London in order to better meet client needs. Providing a wide range of IT services including Website Design, E-Commerce Solutions, Custom Content Management Systems and Email Marketing Campaigns, Wubbleyou can meet all your IT needs.

The company was started around 5 years ago by business partners Michael Peeke-Vout and Mark Renney. They met at Northumbria University whilst studying for a degree in Computer Science. This course which covers everything from robotics to web design gave the pair all the skills they needed to start the business and it has since gone from strength to strength.

They have worked with many clients over the years including Northumbria University, International Defence Contractors, North Tyneside Council, local charitable organisations and now the Yorkshire Reporter. Wubbleyou design websites ranging from business marketing websites to custom solutions for corporate clients. They have worked with companies internationally and are building up quite a reputation across the UK. They are very happy to meet in person to discuss your requirements and will travel to you to do this.

We asked Wubbleyou to tell us a little bit about what is involved in creating a website, and here Mark and Michael give us an insight into how they created ours:

Planning Stage

The first stage in our process is to have an initial meeting to discuss the client’s ideas about the website. In this case, Brian was clear with his main objective which was to give access to the Yorkshire Reporter to a wider, national audience.

One of the first key points that were mentioned was that they wanted to be able to provide an online version of their paper, as well include back issues of the Yorkshire Reporter. It was at this point that it was decided that the website would include a premium area that allowed for full access to the current and back issues of the paper, as well as special competitions and exclusive content.

Another key point that was mentioned was that the website needed to be made suitable for a wide range of media devices. This included the likes of desktop PC’s, tablets and smart phones. We do this by creating what is known as a “responsive” website. That means that the content will be visible in an optimal viewing format depending on the device you’re looking at the website on.

Design Stage

It was then time to create some initial mock-ups for the first revision of the website. It takes a very basic form, just including square boxes where each element will be placed on the page.

This is the first time you get to visualise how the website could look. The next step after this is to insert some “dummy content” into the element spaces to see how it would actually appear to the user. This is carried out during the mock-up stage before any work goes into actually creating the website.

Development Stage

From here we went in to the development stage where we start the coding process for the layout and design for the website. This is normally the most exciting point in the website development cycle as it’s starting to create what the users will actually see.

Once the layout is developed, it’s time to put the content in. The Yorkshire Reporter was great at providing content as they had previous issues of the paper that were ready to go straight into the website.

Testing Stage

This section of the website development is crucial to making sure that the website works as intended. This includes testing features such as payment processing for premium subscriptions, and all the registration procedures.

It’s also important to test the website on a range of internet browsers such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. All of these browsers can process the code for the website in a different way, meaning that the results you see are sometimes different. This is also the point at which we test the website in a range of smart media devices such as smart phones and tablets.

Site Launch

Once this has all been completed, the website was ready to go live on July 1st 2014. In just over six weeks’ worth of work, the Yorkshire Reporter was ready to be released to the public. We’ve already seen with initial signups, that the website is being reached by a wide range of users from all over the globe.

It was great to work with Brian and the team at Yorkshire Reporter. They worked closely with us to get the website suitable for all their target audiences. I think the website’s turned out great and we’re sure they can continue to grow the business both online, and offline through their papers.
