Staff at Wharfedale Hospital held their very first Celebration Event at Otley Golf Club recently, during an evening dedicated to recognising staff achievement.

The event centred around an awards ceremony that highlighted the contributions staff have made in their roles, with awards such as Patient Champion and Delivering Excellent Care showing the dedication of staff to their patients.

The event brought together staff from the broad range of services provided at the hospital including partners from Villa Care and Local Care Direct, who also deliver services on the site.

Members of the Executive team from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust were present on the night to present the awards. Five award categories included Outstanding Contribution Award, which went to Barbara Martinez, Senior Sister Outpatients; and Team of the Year Award, which went to Ward W1, Surgical Unit.

Iain MacBrairdy, General Manager, said: “The evening was a great opportunity to celebrate the hard work delivered by all the teams at Wharfedale Hospital, and was a fitting way to recognise the dedication and pride with which the teams deliver care to their patients every day.”

The awards ceremony was followed by a sit-down meal and an evening of dancing and entertainment. Live music was provided by Carl Chambers, Non-Executive Director, and his band.

Clare Smith, Director of Operations, said: “The strong sense of community between the teams at Wharfedale Hospital enables a spirit of collaboration that shows staff at Wharfedale living the Leeds Way in everything they do. It really is worthy of celebration and I hope this event will be the first of many.”
