They are a national charity based company established in 1964, originally named the British Legion Housing Association. As well as Leeds, other areas they cover in Yorkshire include Bradford, Elland, Keighley and Thirsk.

While they specialise in high quality services for older people, they also assist individuals with learning or physical disabilities and mental health problems. The services that the company provide include personal care, food, drink and medication preparation, domestic tasks and shopping and other errands. They also provide a sitting service and can offer full respite care.

They are registered with CQC and work in partnership with both the independent and statutory sectors. The services provided by Housing & Care 21 have been recognised for innovation and quality. They also currently hold the contract for the Carer’s Emergency Service with Leeds City Council which puts into place a 48hr emergency plan for carers who find themselves in an emergency situation.

Recruitment

Housing & Care 21 currently have vacancies to join their dedicated team. They like to recruit locally to give opportunities for local people to care for local people. You don’t need experience of caring for older people as they have a structured induction programme to provide all the support needed for the right people.

You will however need an understanding nature and value base, a commitment to providing a high quality service and a flexible approach, as you will have to be prepared to work early mornings, evenings and weekends when they have their highest volume of work. Housing & Care 21 understand that many people have no professional experience of caring for others but have often cared for family members. The most important attribute therefore is a caring nature and a willingness to help others.

When recruiting staff they look for individuals who are self- motivated, who can deliver care with a person centred approach, who will support people and help them maintain their independence and live well. Carers should have a passion about helping people, be able to drive in this mobile role, possess a can do, positive attitude, possess the compassion, dedication and willingness to go the extra mile, have excellent communications skills and build relationships, and enjoy a challenge and be flexible in your approach to work.

The Carers role:


Personal Care – Help with getting up and ready for the day and settling in for the night, washing, bathing, and toileting


Practical Support – Meal preparation and medication support


Specialised Care – Supporting people with more complex care needs or dementia

Housing & Care 21 offer their employees:

Shadowing – Min 21 hours (Paid for)
