Sheep Seats ‘Ewe’ Can Look Out For At Huddersfield Reservoir

Local News

Now visitors to a reservoir in Huddersfield may notice a small flock of sheep grazing on the pathway, a closer inspection will reveal them as ‘ewe’ inspired seats for walkers to rest at and admire the reservoir views.

The three ‘n-ewe’ seats, carved in granite, have been commissioned by Yorkshire Water to help celebrate the agricultural heritage of the area and provide a resting stop for walkers around the reservoir.

Once spotted, visitors are being encouraged to take a photo sitting on the unique seats and post it on social media with the hashtag #FoundEwe to be in with a chance of winning a £100 outdoor clothing gift voucher.

The farmy furniture has been created by Hepworth based stone sculptor, Mike Disley, who said: “This has been a great project to be involved with and I hope they provide a practical solution to increasing visitor numbers and make people smile. What I like about granite is that it doesn’t age and it doesn’t absorb water, so the sheep should still look pristine even in a few hundred years’ time.”

Each of the seats have been named Baar-tholemew, Ewe-gene, and Betty, with the name Betty chosen by the pupils of Marsden Junior & Infant School. The names are engraved on a stainless-steel plaque fitted onto a stone plinth next to each seat.

John Bond, Communications Advisor at Yorkshire Water, commented: “We were delighted to get Mike involved as he’s a fantastic sculptor and local to the area. Visitors can enjoy the countryside and also now these new additions.”
