NEW BAND FORMED BY JEZ & ANDY WILLIAMS FROM DOVES ANNOUNCE DEBUT UK TOUR

EntertainmentMusic Reviews

Excitement around Black Rivers, the recently announced new band from brothers Jez & Andy Williams, is quickly gathering pace.

Their debut track ‘The Ship’ (available to download for free from www.blackriversofficial.com) combines an electro arpeggio with a haunting melody reminiscent of a seafaring Nick Drake, and has received thousands of streams and downloads since it was premiered last month. Two low-key warm-up shows subsequently previewed a triumphant festival debut at Kendal Calling and the duo will next hit Belsonic festival on August 18th.

The next stage commences with the confirmation of the band’s debut tour which includes their first-ever London show as well as a homecoming date in Manchester:

“Some bands are rooted in the reality of the here and now,” says Jez. “I suppose we’ve always been about escapism: searching for something. The exciting thing about Black Rivers is that we had the freedom to go wherever we wanted.”

Following the four Doves albums of the previous decade, guitarist Jez plunged himself into electronic music while drummer Andy formed a new band with some friends. Gradually, the brothers found themselves making music together once again. After drifting back together, the duo can now officially launch their new band Black Rivers.

Black Rivers decamped to a remote cottage in Anglesey last winter in order to write and record new material. Sharing vocal duties, they boosted their sound with Jez playing bass and keyboards, and Andy contributing piano in addition to their regular instruments. They also called on the expertise of Claudius Mittendorfer (Johnny Marr, Muse, Temples) for mixing duties.

Anticipation is already building for the band’s debut album which will be released early next year.
