I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful response we have had.

Here are some of the items sent into us –

Dear Mrs. X,

Thank you for sending me the image of your vase and the markings underneath. It is a porcelain black ground Etruscan/Greek style vase with the marks B.B.W.& M.  It was made around 1860 by Bates, Brown-Westhead & Moore in the Victory pattern.

A similar vase by the same potters sold recently at auction for £85.

Dear Mrs. Y,

Thank you for contacting me about your part tea service.

The mark underneath your plate of a lion standing over the initials R & D shows it was made by Redfern & Drakeford Ltd who were china manufacturers in the town of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent from 1892 – 1933. The printed mark on your tea set shows it was made between 1892 – 1909. The value is in having the complete set of 12 cups, 12 saucers, 12 side plates, teapot, sugar and cream.   A cup, saucer & plate set in that pattern is retailing between £12 – 20 online, but you may be able to find pieces cheaper at antique fairs or auction rooms to complete your set.

Dear Mr. Z,

Thank you for contacting me about your picture entitled “The Viaduct, Knaresborough” by Sam Chadwick. Your picture is a Limited Edition print number 38 of 264 copies.

Sam Chadwick (1902 – 1992) was a prolific Yorkshire artist who produced many paintings and hundreds of lithographs and prints. He worked as an apprentice at the printing firm Alf Cooke’s, and eventually had a studio in Wade Lane, Leeds. He was also an excellent photographer and member of the Leeds Photographic Society.

It is nice to have a Limited Edition print, especially signed by the artist. His prints sell for under £50 at the moment, but we are sure his original paintings will go up in price in the future.

You may be sat on a treasure trove! It is often the items that you think are worthless that can turn out to be the most valuable.

Not sure? Then send an email to
antiques@yorkshirereporter.co.uk. I will answer everyone.

Look forward to valuing for you

Gary Don
