Leeds Flower Show 2014

Preparations are well underway for the 2014 Leeds Flower Vegetable and Craft Show on 2nd and 3rd August at the Grammar School in Leeds.

This year is a Special Event being the 150th year since the first Flower Show in 1864 which was held in The Drill Hall of The Leeds Volunteer Rifles – in central Leeds.

That show is going to be replicated with a Marquee set out and decorated in the style  as reported in the Leeds Mercury of  June 22nd 1864.   Plants to be shown will include varieties of plants, flowers, vegetables and fruits grown at that time

The main hall will exhibit over 400 classes including Yorkshires very best Flowers, Floral Art, Vegetables, Fruit, grown by keen amateur gardeners especially for this event.

Other classes include domestic produce, Wine & Honey, Photography, Paintings, Scarecrow competition, and Childrens section

Entries are welcome in all classes.

There will be demonstrations of Spinning, Quilting, Lace Making, Embroidery,Wood Carving  Flower Arranging and A Sri Lanken Cookery Demonstration.

Also there is a Gardeners Question Time in the theatre on Saturday at 2.30pm with Joe Maiden , Gordon Kirby, David Lister, Eric Wells and Douglas Mansion.

Trade stands include:  nurseries, specialist growers, garden accessories and tools, photography, paintings and prints, greetings cards and the ice cream man to cool you down.  Applications for trade stands are still welcome.

The Leeds Model Railway join in with a fantastic display of tracks and trains!!

Saturday, noon–5pm -Sunday, 10am-5pm (last admission 4.30pm on both days)

Adult – £6.00 -Senior Citizen – £5.00

Children under 16 years – free (when accompanied by an adult)

LHS Members (with Membership Card) – Free
