Frozen MCard Prices Mean Bus Users Can Still Go Further For A Fiver

Local News

West Yorkshire’s bus users can now save as much as £1.70 per journey when they top up their Pink MCard with Bus DaySavers in advance.

MCard’s decision to freeze Bus DaySaver ticket prices means passengers can take advantage of unlimited all-day any-bus travel throughout West Yorkshire for just £5. When bought from the driver on the bus, Bus DaySavers cost £6.70.

As work patterns change with more variable, part-time and flexible working, Bus DaySavers are proving popular with people commuting to their jobs as well as leisure travellers. They can be bought in advance on a Pink MCard, individually or in bundles of three, five or 10, which is where passengers can make the greatest savings.

Stephanie Linossier, a regular DaySaver user said:

“I travel to work in the town centre three days a week so it’s really handy having tickets already loaded onto my Pink MCard, which I can use as I need them, both for work and at weekends.

“You don’t have to stick to one single bus operator which is super convenient, they are great value when you compare them with other ticket prices and I use the MCard App to buy them so it’s really quick and easy.

Joanna Chew, Commercial Development Manager at the West Yorkshire Ticketing Company, said:

“Through MCard, which is one of the country’s most used smartcards outside of London, we are aiming to make using buses and trains simpler, more affordable and more attractive and as their popularity shows, Bus DaySavers are doing that job.”

Pink MCards are available free online at m-card.co.uk and can be loaded up with DaySavers using the free Android App, at one of West Yorkshire’s 700 Payzone outlets, at bus station MCard ticket machines or at one of the nine West Yorkshire Bus Station Travel Centres.

Pink MCards can also be obtained from ticket machines, Payzone stores and West Yorkshire Bus Station Travel Centres at a charge of £2. The benefit of ordering online, apart from the £2 saving is that a Pink MCard is automatically registered which means anyone with a longer-term ticket can get their travel ticket replaced if they lose the Card, so they don’t lose their money. Pink MCards can be topped up with either daily, weekly, or monthly bus travel or weekly or monthly bus and rail travel.

A new MCard App that will be compatible with both Android and iOS users is in the pipeline. Scheduled for launch in the Spring, the new app will include a mobile ticket code and eventually is expected to replace smartcard usage.
