If your only thoughts of singing have been confined to the shower, you could be a just little step closer to unleashing your vocal talents with a series of free workshops being launched this summer by Leeds Male Voice Choir.

The Find Your Voice workshops will introduce men to a whole range of vocal techniques including pitch, tone, breathing and posture. Rob Butler a spokesman for Find Your Voice said “I attended the workshops a couple years ago and haven’t looked back. I really wasn’t sure what to expect but I got a warm welcome and soon realised it was fantastic to be surrounded by guys who enjoy singing together. You can’t understand the buzz of singing in a group until you’ve tried it”.

Find Your Voice is the brainchild of Tim Knight who is both Director of Leeds Male Voice Choir and Principal of the Yorkshire College of Music and Drama. Tim said “We’re looking for men of all ages and backgrounds and are creating an environment where they can come and try singing in a relaxed and friendly environment”.

“Too often people are told that they can’t sing, but that’s rarely true. Everyone has the ablity to develop their voice and I’ve found that some of the most apprehensive people can develop into some of the strongest singers. Singing is such a life affirming activity. I really hope the men of Leeds come along and give the workshops a go!”

The sessions are open to those of all singing abilities, including those who have never sung before and aims to introduce men to the fun that can be experienced in singing in a group. Rob said “Find Your Voice really opened my eyes to what was involved in singing and the tuition was superb. We are convinced that anyone attending will enjoy themselves and discover how great singing can be.”

The Find Your Voice workshops are running on consecutive Thursday evenings on 24 July, 31 July and 7 August at Yorkshire College of Music and Drama, St Marks Avenue, Woodhouse, Leeds, LS2 9BN.
