Allerton Grange – Lord of the Flies

Praise was given to male students from years 7-9 who performed in the play adaptation of William Goldings’ Lord of the Flies.

Auditions were held in late October and from then on students were straight into a rigorous rehearsal schedule involving a mix of vocal, physical and movement work. This project was also made possible because of the collaboration with two student directors from Leeds University, Job Kabamba and Jordan Wright who are currently in their 2nd year of University studying BA (Hons) Theatre and Performance Degree. Head of Drama Mrs Rachel Jarman said “Both the Drama Department and our students benefited greatly from their involvement; bringing a new energy and new ideas to the stage at Allerton Grange. In words of the directors themselves the final show was ‘a combination of discipline, dedication and perseverance. For these fantastic students to come to terms with such an intricate dystopian novel at such a young age, makes us wonder what is yet to come from them.”

Mrs Rachel Jarman added “The final show really was a success and the boys should be extremely proud of what they achieved. Through a mix of music, physical movement, projection and ensemble work the cast were able to capture the thoughts, dreams and nightmares of the characters on the Island, captivating the audience and bringing their story to life on stage.”
