Just over a year ago we appealed for help for the 2nd Bramley Scouts. Their hut was very dilapidated and in bad need of repairs in order to carry on providing fun, education and friendship for the children who attend the group. Thanks to the campaign, several local businesses and individuals came forward to offer their assistance, and we are pleased to announce that not only are the repairs well underway, but the club recently celebrated their 70th birthday too!

The 70th birthday celebration was a fantastic success with cubs and scouts past and present enjoying all the event had to offer. There was a tombola, live music and photos from across the decades on display. The Scout Association in Bramley has clearly had a fantastic impact on the children who have attended over the years with many fond memories.

One past scouter John remembers “I was in 2nd Bramley Cub/Scout pack in the late 50’s, early 60’s. We had weekly boxing matches at Highfield Place, and St George’s Day parades from the Clifton along Town St. I was so proud to march in those parades and flag days. In 1961 we had a weekend camp at Burton Leonard near Harrogate, and if I recall correctly we all went on Jack Hart’s open backed lorry, tents and all! I remember the uniform – green jumper, neckerchief, green cap and woggle all bought from the Scout shop in Leeds – and not forgetting square mess tins for camping. Happy days still remembered!”

Thanks to the local companies supporting the club, which provides so much joy to the youngsters of the community, hopefully they will continue to thrive and create happy memories for many more years to come. The hut has had a new suspended ceiling put in, a full rewire and the old garage has been demolished. They are having gas installed in the building to ensure that the hut will be cosy and warm throughout the winter months, and with more work planned, the future certainly looks bright! Adam Frost, Group Scout Leader commented “Thank you to the Yorkshire Reporter for you article last year. It was down to the appeal that so many local companies came forwards to offer their services free of charge. We are thrilled with the work that has been done so far, and excited for what is still to be done!”
