The Wetherby Whaler’s Guiseley restaurant has raised £2,500 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance after hosting a family fun day.
Dozens of families descended on the Otley Road restaurant to enjoy activities including face painting, balloon artists, live music and a special appearance by Wetherby Whaler’s mascot, Wally the Whale.
Wetherby Whaler, which has restaurants in Wetherby, York, Pudsey, Guiseley and Wakefield, has been fundraising for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance since 2011. Since then it has raised more than £15,000 for the charity, which operates a two helicopter rapid response air emergency service throughout Yorkshire.
Tracy Speight, Restaurant Manager, said: “The family fun day was a fantastic event. Not only did everyone have a great day, but we also managed to raise more than £2,500 for a deserving cause.
“We’re proud to be a Yorkshire business with restaurants and takeaways throughout the region, so it seems only fitting that we support a charity that helps so many people in the area.
“You hope that you never require the assistance of the Air Ambulance, but it truly is a vital service, and one that has saved many lives.”
Kerry Garner, Yorkshire Air Ambulance West & South Yorkshire Regional Fundraising Manager said: “We’re delighted to have such fantastic support from The Wetherby Whaler. They have been supporting the Charity for a number of years now and have raised an exceptional amount of money which has contributed towards the Charity’s daily running costs.
“To keep both of Yorkshire’s Air Ambulances maintained and in the air we need to raise £12,000 every single day. The generosity we receive from the local community and businesses such as The Wetherby Whaler is the life-blood of the Charity.”
