VW COMMERCIAL VEHICLES HELP FIND TRADESMEN OF THE FUTURE

Motoring

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is helping unearth the tradesmen and women of the future with sponsorship of the HIP and SPARKS Apprentice of the Year 2020 competitions.

The brand will provide three vans to support the annual competitions for plumbing and electrical apprentices which kicked off on January 14, with regional heats running across the country until April.

The Volkswagen Crafter, Caddy and Caddy Maxi will be used to transport equipment for the live challenges to the heats where hundreds of plumbers and electricians compete to win a place at the grand final.

Full-time apprentices, aged 17-24, compete in each heat with the ultimate winner, selected by a panel of industry experts, receiving prizes worth up to £10,000.

The Volkswagen van line-up will be crucial to the competitions with the live challenges featuring shower/boiler repairs for the plumbers and wiring, bulbs and switch tests for electricians. All the equipment for each needs to be transported to every corner of the country, showcasing the Crafter’s load bay size of up to 18.4m3 and the versatility of the Caddy and Caddy Maxi.

HIP Magazine is the only magazine for plumbing and heating students and apprentices in the UK. Developed by lecturers and key industry leaders, the publication is both industry and syllabus-led, creating an essential course companion and study aid for Levels Two and Three.

Similarly, SPARKS Magazine is also the only magazine for apprentice electricians. Reaching 98% of electrical apprentices, the magazine is dedicated to delivering world-class learning material to support electrical apprentices and students as well as lecturers.
