Back in 1982 something exciting emerged in the city of Leeds, a hidden gem in the heart of the cultural quarter that this year celebrates its 33rd year. Working with makers and supporting their development and creativity has enabled them to provide a unique visitor experience for a growing audience of those wishing to learn more about the skill, talent and originality behind contemporary craft.
The support of their designers, visitors and customers over these remarkable years has been crucial in the success of the Craft Centre and Design Gallery. They hope you enjoy what the future has in store as they continue to bring you the very best in contemporary craft.
What some of their customers have said:
“Engaged and engaging” – Margaret Brown, Oxford
“Lovely handcrafted pieces displayed beautifully” – Hannah Bent, Leeds
“Thank you, the staff are so helpful” – Caroline Hough, London
“Love it here (come every visit to the UK)” – John Wall, Paris
Their aim is to take you on a journey to experience the talent, skill, originality and beauty of contemporary craft made by UK designer makers today.
An exciting seasonal exhibition programme showcases contemporary handmade jewellery, ceramics, limited edition prints, glass, wood, textiles and works in mixed media supporting the work of British makers across the UK. A lot of the makers are from Yorkshire too and these can be recognised in the gallery wherever there is a Yorkshire Rose symbol next to their display.
The annual showcase of inspired gifts for Valentine’s and Mother’s Day called ‘Made with Love’ is now showcasing a beautiful selection of pieces. From pretty silver earrings to delicate porcelain vessels, wonderful hand built figurative sculptures and quirky wall hung works, there really is something for everyone to marvel at and consider to buy for a loved one.
