Temple Newsam

Hello readers. I hope you are all well and thank you for taking the time to read my monthly review on entertainment for children.

This month, with the weather improving I am reviewing a place for all ages. This is in fact, the local park. As you have probably all read about the changes and improvements to many of the different parks in Leeds on pages 6-7, I thought I would stick to the same theme and look at one of the most well-known parks in the city – Temple Newsam. Read on to find out some key elements of Temple Newsam for a cheap and cheerful day out if you fancy a change from your usual park.

The main feature of this park is a big house from the 18th century, which you can go in and get a real feel of that era with all the old fashioned furniture still inside. There is a charge to go in the house but it is reasonable. Also, while we are on the subject of history – did you know Temple Newsam is also where the Knights Templar were once based? That’s why it is called ‘Temple’ Newsam – for those of you who are historians!

To keep the younger children busy there is a farm at the park where children have the opportunity to visit farm animals and learn what it is like on a farm for a small charge.

Please note that Selina was granted special permission, to hold the goat under supervision for the purpose of this article only.

Hold it there though – you can also have a load of fun here for free. With fields and lakes it is a good place to take a picnic and play outdoor games. There is also a playground for children with swings, slides and climbing frames.
Temple Newsam definitely has something for everyone of all ages and different interests. I think all parks are excellent and I always have fun when I go to them with my family.

My dogs love the parks too! Don’t forget though that there are many lovely parks in Leeds. Always good for a fab, FREE day out!
