Surprise Visit By Lord Mayor And Lady Mayoress

Maureen and Ron Fisher were over the moon to be visited by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress who arrived at their home in a chauffeur driven Jaguar to help celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of the couple, much to the delight of all the family. They then presented the happy couple with a painting of Kirkstall Abbey and a framed certificate of congratulations.

[private]Married at St Patricks Church on the 24th July 1954, Maureen and Ron had two sons Tony and the late Michael who passed away aged just 43. The couple also have 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. It was one of their granddaughters Katie who arranged for the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress to surprise her grandparents on their Diamond Wedding Anniversary by attending the celebrations. Ron has received many accolades from various local organisations for his prolific contribution to local football, and also the fund raising for charity he does every year, so the Lord Mayor was happy to offer his congratulations to the couple.

Back in March, the Yorkshire Reporter interviewed Ron Fisher, who has dedicated 61 years to local football as a coach and physio. Amazed by the amount of time Ron had spent working with local football clubs we felt the name ‘Mr Football’ to be most appropriate for our article. The past 60 years have not only been spent with football but also more importantly with his lovely wife Maureen.

The Yorkshire Reporter asked Maureen and Ron if they had any advice to offer newlyweds. Both replied that a happy marriage requires a lot of give and take on both sides. Ron then added that you should always listen to music and sing to your wife! He often sings to her ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ and Maureen returns the gesture with a rendition of ‘Some Days are Diamonds (Some Days are Stones)’.

Everyone here at the Yorkshire Reporter offer their congratulations to Maureen and Ron and wish them many more happy years together![/private]
