Quadruple Win For Horizon Leeds – The Country’s Unique Venue Supporting The NHS

Local News

Horizon Leeds, a cutting-edge venue in the heart of the city, won all three of its nominated categories – as well as the Chairman’s Award – at the recent CHS Awards 2016. The national event recognises excellence in hotels and venues. It is a big win for Horizon Leeds, which opened in September 2014 and is still the UK’s only conference location reinvesting all its profits into support for NHS services.
Run by the NHS Confederation (which provides that support), its success reflects Leeds’ strength as a home of innovation and as the number-one hub of NHS leadership outside London.
The winning categories were Best Boardroom, Best DDR (i.e. day delegate rates), Best Onsite AV (i.e. audio-visual services) and the Chairman’s Award.
The Chairman of the Judges, Richard John, praised the Brewery Wharf-located venue for its recovery from major regional floods: “Despite great adversity, [they] did an amazing job of getting back on their feet and onto the radar of agents and clients alike.”
Megan MacBrairdy from Saltaire is Horizon Leeds’ General Manager and has led the venue’s development since its conception. She was with colleagues at the Manchester award ceremony and said:
“We love running Horizon Leeds because it’s a friendly meeting place with a really ethical approach. It’s simple – anyone from the private or public sector can help the health service by choosing us as their good value, high tech venue.
“It really was born out of the big challenges facing the modern NHS, whose leaders often need to travel and have meetings but also need to make every penny count.”
The team at the awards were Megan MacBrairdy (General Manager), Tracey Gibson (Events Booking Assistant), Natalie Pitts (Events Coordinator) and Aissa Marfoua (Event Operations Assistant).
On 26 April 2016 Megan also won the Innovative Project Award 2016 at Leeds Beckett University’s UK Centre for Events Management. Its judges said that “Megan runs one of Leeds’s most vibrant and dynamic meeting venues.”
