October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to mark the campaign, Breast Cancer Haven, Yorkshire is increasing awareness across the region with the help of their supporters. Activities commenced on Sunday (6th) when a Breast Cancer Haven supporter, Louise Wright, hosted “Jog on Cancer”, an event held in Horsforth park that raised awareness to hundreds of people and raised over £4,000 for the charity. This amount will provide four people with a tailored package of support.

Breast Cancer Haven’s new Fundraising Manager Matt Jameson, said:

“It’s incredible the amount of support we get from individuals like Louise, and we can’t thank her enough for raising such an amazing amount of money. Throughout all of October many other supporters will be raising money for Breast Cancer Haven in Yorkshire and making a massive difference during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Everyone who has been affected by breast cancer knows how important it is to get the right support and we are here to provide that right from diagnosis. But we couldn’t do it without the generosity and support of people like Louise.”

Breast cancer is the UK’s most common cancer, annually 590 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in Yorkshire. Each breast cancer diagnosis is traumatic and can take a huge toll on the individual whether it is physical, mental or financial or a combination of all three. Breast Cancer Haven is a national charity, with a centre in Leeds city centre, which provides a tailored package of emotional, physical and practical support to mitigate the symptoms of breast cancer and alleviate the side effects of treatment.

Breast Cancer Haven will be hosting a range of events during October to increase awareness and raise funds to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone. There is something for everyone to get involved in, from sky dives to awareness stands, to bucket collections to the charity’s annual birthday fundraising party. The charity is aiming to create enough awareness and funds to ensure that everyone diagnosed with breast cancer in Yorkshire has the support they need. To find out more about Breast Cancer Haven, Yorkshire, pop down to the centre on Thursday 10 October from 10am for a Coffee and Cake morning, open to all.
