History made as Leeds Bradford Airport turns pink in support of Breast Cancer Haven

Local News

Leeds Bradford Airport has this week changed colour for the first time in its history in support of national charity, Breast Cancer Haven, which has a centre in Leeds. This unique move – which sees the Airport’s customary blue lighting change to striking pink – is taking place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the hope that passengers arriving and departing the city will want to learn more about the support available for breast cancer sufferers.

There are over 5,000 cases of breast cancer across Yorkshire each year, and Breast Cancer Haven – at the Gateway in Leeds – has provided help, support and advice to over 3,000 service users since opening its doors in 2008. Each Breast Cancer Haven provides a wide range of therapies which help people deal with the physical and emotional side effects of breast cancer and its treatments. Specialist healthcare professionals and experts in nutrition, exercise and emotional support provide tailor-made, one to one programmes for each service user, completely free of charge. All breast cancer patients – both female and male – are welcome without the need for referral.

Kayley Worsley, PR and Public Affairs Manager, at LBA said:
“As the region’s international airport, we are really pleased to support this awareness campaign and as such our terminal front lighting will change to pink for a week in October.

“It’s the first time we have been involved, and we hope that it’s a real success. It will be an impressive sight to see so many iconic buildings in the region participating.”

Leeds Bradford Airport will stay ‘in the pink’ until Sunday 23 October. Other iconic landmarks taking part in the campaign include Bridgewater Place, The University of Leeds, The Mansion in Roundhay Park and The Queen’s Hotel.
