Children’s Afternoon Tea At York Grand Hotel & Spa

−−− BY SELINA / JUNIOR REPORTER −−−

Hello readers, and welcome to my monthly article. This month I am reviewing something that the whole family can enjoy – afternoon tea. Most adults love a delicious afternoon tea, but at York Grand Hotel & Spa the kids can join in too with their very own version! Read on to find out more…

I went along to the five-star hotel for afternoon tea recently with a friend and my mum. The hotel is very swanky looking when you walk inside, so we were glad we had dressed up smart! The staff were very friendly, took our coats and seated us at a table in the restaurant. The waiter came and took our drink orders, children have a choice of apple or orange juice, or a cup of tea. My friend chose a glass of juice and I chose normal tea.

My mum had a choice of lots of different teas and chose the special hotel blend which she thought was really refreshing. It was served in silver teapots and we had really pretty tea cups to drink out of.

Just a short time after our drinks arriving, our afternoon teas arrived! Big silver stands were brought out with all sorts of gorgeous looking food stacked on for us to enjoy. My mum had a stand to herself with sandwiches and savouries such as smoked salmon bagels and sunblushed tomato tartlet to start, with two mini scones on the middle shelf and little cakes and desserts at the top.

My friend and I had our food on the other silver stand. The children’s afternoon tea looked so good we couldn’t wait to get tucked in! At the bottom, we had little triangle sandwiches with the crusts cut off, filled with ham, cheese and jam. The middle shelf was the same as mum’s, we both had two mini scones to enjoy, a plain one and a blueberry one. A pot of clotted cream was there too along with the selection of mini jams in the middle of the table. On the top shelf was the stuff of every child’s dreams! Fantastically decorated toffee apple cupcakes, little jellies, squares of chocolate brownie, and two gingerbread men! Everything was presented beautifully and it tasted as delicious as it looked. The only problem we had was deciding what to try first!

We all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea, the whole experience was fantastic and I will definitely return to enjoy it again when I am next in York. It is something different to try with your family instead of a normal lunch out – a real treat that I highly recommend!

Adult’s Afternoon Tea costs £24.50 per person, and the Children’s Afternoon Tea is £17.00 per child.
