Award Winning Sunbeams Day Nursery To Open At Thorpe Park

Business Reviews
Sunbeams Day Nurseries currently provide fantastic care and education for children in their three nurseries across Leeds and Harrogate with a fourth set to open in October at Thorpe Park Business Park
Sunbeams was established in 2001 by Kate Plews , a Registered General Nurse and Health Visitor, when she was disenchanted with the childcare on offer for her own children. Her vast experience of working with families within the NHS meant that she was able to create a stimulating environment that provides the very best in care and education from birth to 5 years old. Utilising her knowledge of early years development, Kate has planned the purpose built nurseries to meet the needs of babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers thus creating a caring and secure setting to enable children to learn and develop during these crucial first years. Children at Sunbeams do not just move through the rooms as they reach a certain age, but do so when they are at the appropriate development phase. Movement to the different areas of the nurseries are planned carefully together with parents to ensure a smooth transition.
Kate is supported at Sunbeams by her husband Andrew who joined the company full time 5 years ago after 20 years working at Nike and Sunbeams has a wonderful management team led by Shelley Briggs, the Operations Manager and Melissa Knowles EYFS Manager, bringing years of childcare experience and knowledge.
All Sunbeams nurseries are staffed by caring and dedicated individuals who are trained and qualified to extremely high standards. The happiness and care of the children at Sunbeams is paramount and at the centre of the whole company ethos. Understanding that every child is unique, and that learning and development progress is individual for each child as well as the importance of building positive relationships and providing an enabling environment for all.
Joining the nursery managers and nursery nurses at each site is a chef who cooks healthy, nutritiously balanced meals every day. They use high quality ingredients and everything is homemade ensuring all children eat delicious food that meets their dietary requirements. The children often get involved in helping to make their own snacks which of course they love – all while teaching them important life skills.

Such is the quality of care at Sunbeams that they are proud of the many awards they have received in recognition of this. Sunbeams has consistently been awarded outstanding in all areas by Ofsted. They were winners of the ‘best indoor learning environment’ in the UK, as well as being a finalist in the National Award ‘Enabling Environments’ by Nursery World. Sunbeams Day Nurseries were also one of the first in the UK to gain the Investors in Children Award. It is extremely difficult to retain ‘outstanding’ status and the fact that Sunbeams has done so time and again is testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff. These nationally recognised awards provide further reassurance for parents that Sunbeams is the perfect choice when it comes to quality care and provision for your children.
The three Sunbeams Day Nurseries are very happy and successful environments where all children thoroughly enjoy learning through play and exploration with a brilliant range of both indoor and outdoor activities offering plenty of educational opportunities. The new Sunbeams at Thorpe Park is going to be a great addition and is currently under construction to Kate’s exacting standards.
Thorpe Park is in a rural setting with beautiful views, giving children plenty of green space and fresh air to enjoy yet has the convenience for parents of being situated directly off junction 46 of the M1/A1 link providing easy drop off and pick up for those travelling to and from work along the motorway. . As with all the Sunbeams nurseries, Thorpe Park will be open from 7.30am to 6pm each day giving parents plenty of flexibility with their working hours.

Kate and the rest of the team at Sunbeams understand the importance of choosing the right nursery for your child. That’s why you are always welcome to to look around their nurseries with no appointment necessary, speak to staff members and see for yourself why Sunbeams is outstanding. To assist you with such a difficult choice, in next month’s issue of the Yorkshire Reporter, Kate will be bringing you a guide of what to look for when selecting a day nursery. Following on from that over the next few months she will also be discussing various aspects of childcare and development, addressing some of the important things that parents often worry about such as sleep and toilet training.
