Antiques With Gary Don

From next month we have an exciting new regular column to bring our readers on antiques and valuables. Gary Don, Leeds most well- known Auctioneer is joining our team to talk about interesting items and antiques that you may have at home. This new column is a fantastic opportunity for our readers, as Gary is offering to talk about YOUR items every month! Read on to learn more about Gary and how you can participate….

Gary has antiques in his blood, having been in the auction rooms from the age of 5 which his Grandfather opened in 1929. Having grown up in the business, Gary is a true expert in his field. As well as being the official auctioneers for Leeds City Council, he has been valuing, commenting and advising on antiques and collectibles for the listeners of Radio Leeds for 30 years. He has also appeared on BBC television programmes such as “Keep it in the Family”. Charities have often benefitted from Gary’s expertise too, as he is always happy to help out at charity auctions where he can.

The auction house, just off York Road in Leeds is full of fascinating objects from vinyl records and vintage toys to jewellery, ornaments and fine art. Nothing is too unusual for this expert!

Do you have an interesting object at home that you would like to know more about? Perhaps it is something that has been handed down the family over the years and you have no idea what it’s worth, or maybe you have been wondering if that ‘bargain’ you picked up at the car boot sale was as good a deal as you thought? All you have to do is email Gary a picture of the item (and a picture of any stamps/marks if it is china), plus any information you have about it, and he will do the rest. Gary will choose the most interesting object to speak about in the column each month, but he promises to answer every email he receives. If your item is chosen as the one printed, you have the option to remain anonymous.

The email address to send to is: antiques@yorkshirereporter.co.uk

You must enter Antiques in the subject box of the email, and include a contact email or telephone number so that Gary can get back to you for more information if he needs it.
