ABSEIL TRIUMPH FOR BARNARDO’S WORKERS

CharityLocal News

Two Barnardo’s workers have scaled new heights for children by abseiling down one of Leeds’ tallest buildings – the CLV Building, formerly Opal 3, in Jacob Street.
They abseiled 269 feet from the top of the tower to the ground on Sunday 25 September to raise nearly £600 and mark the children’s charity’s 150th anniversary.
Natalie Dixon and Amanda Wilson both work for Barnardo’s Futures, which provides accommodation to vulnerable 16-21 year olds across West and South Yorkshire.
Natalie, who lives in Morley, says: “It was a very exciting morning – we enjoyed the amazing views of Leeds while we waited for our turn then Amanda was really brave and waited patiently for me to climb over the railing, which was the scariest part! She sped down the building, dangling at one point, but I gripped the rope for dear life and took my time!”
Amanda said: “We both work at Futures and see every day the difference it makes to young people’s lives. We wanted to do something really big because the young people we work with do really challenging things every day and we thought we should recognise this with something that was a huge personal challenge for us both. Neither of us had ever done anything like it before!
“Our family and friends cheered us on at the bottom and we were really proud of ourselves, knowing that every penny donated is needed to support vulnerable and disadvantaged young people”
